Lacquered, shellacked, glazed, and buffed: I’ve been very impressed with the latest slew of textured bags, many of them higher on the polish than actual skins. I love the idea of enjoying the spirit of texture with none of the annoyance. Take the Yves Saint Laurent Muse Two tweed tote, for instance. With no nubby pieces to fray or catch on hooks and buttons, this bag is as slick as shiny leather (I actually thought it was printed leather when I initially saw it). Patent-leather trim completes the sense of pulled-together luster and stays in keeping with the playful Prince of Wales print.
