Handbag hooks - purse hangers - bag holders - these are all things that I had never heard of until I spent a couple of years living in the south of Brazil with my family. Not long after we arrived, whilst enjoying an evening out at a pleasant local restaurant, my wife went to tuck her handbag under the table. This provoked a bit of a reaction - it turns out that ladies in that part of Brazil consider it to be extremely unlucky to put their handbag on the ground. Some restaurants would provide an extra chair at the table for the lady's handbags, but some of the Brasileiras were more ingenious - they carried small, folding hooks in their handbags which they opened up, hung on the edge of the table, and hung their handbags on. Whether or not you think that's any luckier than putting it on the floor might be debatable, but it's got to be cleaner - and you can keep your bag off...
