Michelle Williams's stylist reveals the inspiration behind the actress's #Oscars look.

Michelle Williams is nominated for Best Supporting Actress at tonight’s Oscars . From a fashion perspective, however, Williams is fully committed to the house of Louis Vuitton. When the Manchester by the Sea actress floated onto the Academy Awards red carpet in a Nicolas Ghesquière–designed black velvet halter gown with a heavily embroidered skirt, she looked every bit the leading lady. Williams’s stylist, Kate Young, revealed the moment drew inspiration from a photograph of Jean Seberg, the American icon of French New Wave cinema. “There are three different textures, and it took a century!” Young said. “It’s magical.” The dramatic plunging neckline was a new twist for Williams, and she did well to eschew competing details up top. She opted instead for simple diamond stud earrings and a matching bracelet, and the overall effect was subtle and sophisticated. Williams, who h...
